On Grace

By Grace You Have Been Saved
Man is completely dead. His sin has overwhelmed him, and there is no hope of redemption apart from God. Since the beginning, when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, man has been in a fallen state of sin. So how would God save man, who had rebelled against Him? How does God save men today? He saves humankind through grace. God chose to be gracious to man and give him a chance to be saved. But, how could God let him go unpunished for his sin? How could He let sin into His holy presence? He was able to do this because of Christ’s sacrifice. God sent His Son to take all of man’s sin upon Himself. God accepted this sacrifice, and now man can be cleared from his guilt through Christ’s surrender. Furthermore, God’s Holy Spirit shows believers the grace of God’s gospel. It is evident in the Scriptures that God saves man through grace because of Christ’s death, God’s acceptance, and the Holy Spirit’s persuasion to the truth.
In the Bible, Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” These verses clearly state God’s work of grace in salvation. Man cannot work to gain justification of his sins because only God supplies the way to heaven. God, because He loves man, provides a way for him to be redeemed by His grace. Why did God choose to set up salvation this way? He did it so that no one could take glory for saving himself. One could imagine how boastful a self-saved person could be. That person would give no glory to God, and all of the person’s praise would be given to himself because he saved himself by his works. Therefore, God saves man by His own grace so that He can receive the glory.
God’s grace in salvation is shown by the sacrifice of His Son. God’s Son, who is Jesus, was sent by God to come to earth and die for the sins of the world. How much grace did God have upon man at this time? How deserving was man? The fact is that God had an amazing amount of grace for the exceedingly sinful man. God gave His Son as a sacrifice to pay for man’s sin. It is hard to imagine that a father who loves his son would give him up to save people who could care less, but in the same way, God is that father. God had to be full of grace and love to give His Son to die for the sin of man. The sacrifice of Christ shows that God has grace on man. Since Christ’s sacrifice covers death, God’s sending His Son to die shows that God gives salvation by grace.
God shows His work of grace in salvation by accepting the sacrifice that Christ made. In the Bible, God says that those who believe in Him will inherit eternal life (John 3:16). Furthermore, He says in John 14:6 that Jesus is the way, truth, and life. In these passages, God affirms, through His Word, that Christ’s sacrifice was acceptable. Since God inspired the Bible, and because God cannot sin, what He says in the Bible must be true. Therefore, God graciously gives license for the method of salvation in these verses. Now man can be saved. Christ’s death for mankind is the acceptable means of salvation, and God saves by grace because He accepts Christ’s sacrifice for the payment of sins according to these verses.
The Holy Spirit confirms the act of God’s grace to believers. In John 15:26 Jesus says, “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness about me.” In this verse, Jesus is speaking of the Holy Spirit who will come to teach believers the truth of the gospel. Now, there are two important facts that are stated here. The Holy Spirit, through the work of salvation, shows believers the truth. Also, He is the Helper that, for believers, proves the gospel. In other words, once a person is saved the Holy Spirit works in his life and proves that God’s gospel of grace is true.God’s act of grace in salvation is proven to believers by the Holy Spirit.
Since Biblical evidence is not widely trusted by non-believers, how can those who do not believe, trust that God saves by His grace? How can it be proven to them? The most basic answer is that it cannot. One would have to prove God, but there is no way to prove God as a gracious Savior by human effort. Aside from the work of God and Christ, stated in the Bible, the only proof and the only one who can prove the work of God is the Holy Spirit. God proclaims in John 15:26 that the Helper will teach and show God to believers. The Helper, who is the Holy Spirit, is the one who can teach man of the truth of God. Consequently, the condition of unbelievers is such that they cannot know the truth. Since God has not saved them, they do not have the Holy Spirit and, therefore, they do not know the truth. So, since the Holy Spirit is the only One who can truly prove God’s grace in salvation, and unbelievers do not have the Holy Spirit, unbelievers cannot really know that the gospel of grace is true.
God’s saving work of grace is found in the Bible through Christ’s death, God’s acceptance, and the Holy Spirit’s illumination. The Bible clearly states that God has been gracious to man and that He has chosen His grace as the means of salvation. Christ’s sacrifice with God’s acceptance of the sacrifice points to God’s merciful hand, and the Holy Spirit, though He does not reveal the truth to unbelievers, shows true believers that God has been awesomely merciful and gracious to men. God has blessed man more than anyone can know. He has chosen to spare men from their sinful, godless fall, and He has provided a means of salvation. He has given man what man cannot possibly deserve, and he saves man by that same gift, His grace.

1 John 4:14

Verse 14 – We the believers, because we have the Spirit, know that God sent His Son to save the world. We have seen that it is true. Also, because we have the Spirit, we testify of the gospel. It all hinges on salvation. Since we have salvation we see and testify of the gospel.

1 John 4:12-13

Verse 12 – “No one has ever seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us and His love is perfected in us.”

No one has seen God, but if we love the brethren God dwells in us. We cannot see him, yet He is in us. But He is seen in us. Does that make sense? No one has seen God, but He shows Himself through believers when we love each other. When that happens, it means that He abides in us and that He is perfecting His life in us. So, love one another. It is a vital part of the Christian's life.

Verse 13 – The Spirit is the evidence of our salvation. It is the evidence of God’s abiding in us. Ah, but how do we know that the Spirit is in us? That’s an easy one. The fruit of the Spirit show us that the Spirit is in us. Galatians 5 clearly shows us what the Holy Spirit produces in believers, so look at the fruit. They are evidence of the Spirit. The Spirit is the evidence of God abiding.

1 John 4

Verse 11 – If we are all brothers in Christ, we should love one another. Once again, this doesn’t give any qualifiers. We are to love the brethren, even though they may be different. Denominationalism may be a curse on the Church, but Scripture gives us a basis to love all the brethren no matter where they come from.

1 John 4

Verse 10 –

Look at this love. Look how gracious God is to us. “Not that we loved God, but He loved us.” We didn’t even love God.” We didn’t even want Him. We did not understand. We didn’t even seek for Him (Romans 3:10-11). What grace does God have that He would even allow us to know Him; we who spurned Him? WE DID NOT LOVE GOD BUT HE LOVED US! This is so amazing. Not only did we not want Him, but we were dead in our trespasses in sin (Ephesians 2:1). We were the MOST WORTHLESS creature. Even all of creation praised God except for us. BUT GOD in His mercy gave His only son “to be the propitiation for our sins”; to take our sins so that we may know The Almighty. Even in our wicked estrangement, He graced us. His grace – in the form of His Son. His Son – in the form of our salvation.

Every Man Unrepentant

Oh… my wretchedness.
Oh, the disgusting filth that my flesh now is…and will be.
Oh how, how terrible is my body, my flesh, …my self.
I am not but a filthy vagabond roaming this terrestrial sod, and what more…I LOVE IT!
Oh, and what a sad love it is.
That I would love these rotting bones…these “pleasures”

Why can I not be at ease for just one moment?
Do you not see I am in torment because of my deeds?

Each deed I love.
Oh, but they are fleeting, these loves of mine.
Where are you my hopes, my loves?
Why don’t you stay?
Why don’t you comfort me for one more…moment?
They do not love me.
But I love them…And I will pursue them…

Yes, I see them once again.
They are over there, but…I will go too.
I will go wherever my loves take me.
I will die with my loves, my deeds.
They are wretched, but I cannot help it.
I will defile my soul ever more if only to have one more drop of comfort.
For they alone can comfort me…My evil deeds.

Here is my fate.
To be bound to them. I do not mind.
Here I will rot.
Here, my soul shall be lost forever

1 John 4:8-9

Verse 8 – Those who do not love do not know God. Love is an essential part of the Christian life. It seems that God loves us so much that His love just shows right on through us, but those who do not know God do not have love. Therefore, since they do not have love, no love shines through them.

Verse 9 – How does God love us? How much does He love us? Well it says here that He gave His only Son so that we may live through Him. Can you imagine the sacrifice of God in this? He gave His Son, knowing that He would be ridiculed, mocked, scourged, whipped, beaten, and crucified. And yet it pleased Him to bruise Him (Isaiah 53:10)…Why? Why did He even want to do that? ...So that we would live… Think about that. How great is the grace of God that He would willingly give His son to die. And what more; that He would have us to live through Him.

God gave his Son so that we could have life.

What grace…

Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero is my favorite. Scott and Sims are rippin' it up.

Thoughts on 1 John 4:1-7

Verse 1 -Do not believe every teacher that you hear, but test them to see that they are from God. There are many teachers (spirits) that have gone throughout the world preaching lies and falseties, and it is our job to be skeptical of them. Test them by their faith.

Verse 2 - This is how to test them. Do they profess Christ, that He has come in the flesh? If they do, then they are from God. If they don't, they are not from God. (There are teachers that are actually professing believers that are not from God. I don't think I'm taking this too far, but I think that we can derive that we can tell false teaching by comparing it to the Word of God. If they don't line up, they either need to be corrected or labeled false.

Verse 3 - The spirit of the antichrist is already in the world. The teaching is already there. Watch for it.

Verse 4 - We are from God. We have overcome the false spirit of antichrist because God lives in us, and He is greater than antichrist

Verse 5 - The false spirits/ antichrists are of the world. they are not of God. We know this because they speak like the world and they are appealing to the world. Therefore, the world listens. Beware of those guys

Verse 6 - We know God. Everyone who knows God listens to us. Everyone from the world doesn't listen. We can tell about a preacher/teacher by who they listen to and also by whom we listen to.

Verse 7. Let love be the theme of the brethren. Not strife. Because God is love. He has shown us so much love in our salvation and sanctification. Not to mention all of the grace that he gives us daily. Those who love the brethren truly know that God is God. As Christians, we cannot go on without loving the brethren. It is essential. Of course, we know that all Christians have something wrong with their theology, but that doesn’t mean that we love any one more or less based on their accuracy. In other words, we should love all Christians the same even if their theology be more skewed than our own. Yes, Love our Armenian brothers. Love the Charismatic. Love all who are of the bride of Christ. But…teach them. Teach them, in light of Scripture, of their errors. Teach them in love. Not in arrogance, but love. It is our command, and it can be our joy as well. “Let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God.”
